Friday Features - The Countdown Begins

The countdown to Christmas officially begins tomorrow! How did December creep up on us so fast! I only have 18 days left til my last shipping day in my shop! That's less than 3 weeks to get everything done and in the mail...holy cow!

To help us count down, I've found some adorable advent calendars on Etsy!

This first on isn't technically an advent calendar, but it reminded me of a friend, so I had to post it :)

It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

I've cut back on getting new items listed in my shop while I focus on custom orders for Christmas. But I couldn't help but take time to get this sign listed last night :)

This Believe Sign was inspired by my mom. She loves this word on Christmas decor, so I made this with her in mind.
I actually made two, but the first one sold at a show before I could get it listed...woohoo! It was maroon and silver.

Both color combos look awesome together and the gold and silver paint is metallic, so it really shimmers :)

How are you decorating for the holidays?

Thanksgiving Travels

For the Thanksgiving holiday, Jesse and I traveled to Missouri to see my parents. It was so great to get away for a few days! Here are a few photos from our trip...

This is a bridge at Kansas City that I always think is so cool and I remembered to get a picture this time. I've always wondered if the cables actually serve a purpose or if they're simply decoration.

We got put to work the first day we were down there, but that was okay with us. (good workout!) We helped my parents blow the leaves out of their yard and into piles. Boy do they have leaves!!! The front yard was a piece of cake, but the back yard was completely full! After we blew the leaves as far as we could, my dad had the brilliant idea to rig up a plow on his Ranger to push the leaves! See where I get my creativity from :)

After a hard day of work, we were rewarded with a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. My mom went all out with homemade everything! Her stuffing was awesome and the chocolate pecan pie was delicious!

On Friday we did a little shopping, but no crazy 4 am deals. We just ran errands and had a nice lunch. On our way home we stopped at one of the local wineries and took a tour and did some tasting. They had a laser engraving area set up in their winery! I got to talk with the guy running it for quite a while and thought it was so cool they had someone right there engraving orders!

The best part was waking up each morning to this beautiful view!

It was great to see my parents over this extended weekend and you can guarantee we'll be back for a visit real soon :)

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thanksgiving to all my US blog readers! I hope you're surrounded by family and good food this weekend :)

This month our BBA Challenge was about Gratitude. The host says: "Living with Gratitude is my goal, but certainly at Thanksgiving we all stop to think about what we're thankful for.  How does gratitude play a part in your life?  Create something that shows your gratitude."

I took inspiration from two areas for this challenge. Judy Nolan makes the cutest Gratitude Journals in her MisterPenQuin shop and I wanted to make something similar for myself. Also, I've seen several of my Facebook friends doing a daily challenge by posting what they are thankful for the entire month of November. I took the two ideas and made a daily gratitude journal of my own.

Some days I'm grateful for the little things.

Other days, I'm grateful for bigger things...and use the front and back of the page to write my though

I'm always grateful for my family, friends, health and amazing life. So I used this journal to think about all the little things I'm thankful for. Anything from a day in my pjs to a great business opportunity. I'm thankful everyday :)

And the Award Goes To...

Sometimes you need an extra special way to show your thanks and appreciation for someone. A simple thank you is not enough for the time and dedication they have shown a cause.

I was recently contacted by the University of Michigan to engrave some special recognition awards for their alumni board members. They had seen my engraved wedding invitations and thought they would make a special award. (I love people who can think outside the box!)

I think these awards turned out great! They are a lasting keepsake that these members can keep on their desk to remind them of their service to the university.

Reader Inspiration

I want to thank everyone who has left suggestions lately for new items to add to my shop. I love hearing your ideas and wanted to share a few that I've gotten made so far.

Paige of Oh Nostalgia Designs and Little White Chapel suggested using more than one charm per earring to create a staggered design...I ♥ this idea! I made some with my feather charms as well as my butterflies. I got the butterflies listed last night!

Rose of Random Creative mentioned how well my wedding items have done and suggested I make some key chains for wedding favors. This is such a great idea! And I made some little heart shaped tags in the same design while I was at it!

Valerie of Additions Style suggested adding cuff links to my shop. This is something I've had on my "want to make" list for a while and Valerie's suggestion motivated me to get some supplies ordered and cuff link designs made! I'll be adding both custom options as well as premade options. Superman Cufflinks added this morning!

Gia of One Perfect Day suggested that I add some fun ornament designs to my shop. Since my woodland items have done so well, they were a natural place to start! I have a set that will be added to my shop this week that will include a deer (shown above), an owl and an engraved tree.

Now if I just had time to get all those photos taken, edited and all those items listed! I have so many great new ideas and I want to thank everyone who has given me suggestions! You fuel my creativity and make my "work" so fun!

Small Business Saturday

Forget Black Friday! Forget those long lines and grumpy people. Forget searching for a parking space for hours just to find out your great deal has already been sold out.

Forget Black Friday and think Small Business Saturday! Small Business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 24th) and was created to support local businesses and small, independent artists.

As an independent business owner, I will be having a one day only sale in my Etsy Shop to support Small Business Saturday! I don't run sales very often, so this is a great opportunity to take advantage of this special deal and get your holiday shopping done at the same time!

Stop back next Saturday to find out what the special deal is and start your shopping!!!
