I love adding new items to my shop! I love coming up with new ideas and making them come to life! But sometimes I just don't have the time to get new things into the shop on a timely manner. One way I've found to add new items without actually making something new is with Listing Variations.

Etsy offers sellers the option to let their buyers choose different sizes, colors, etc with listing variations. And another cool option with the variations is adding different costs for different options. This has allowed me to double my inventory in some areas.
Now Available in 2 Sizes |
I recently took a look around my shop to find items that could be personalized (that weren't already) or that could have a different size option. It all started when I wondered why I only offer my wooden greeting cards in one size. I offer my wedding invitations in a larger size and can very easily offer the cards in this size as well. I went through all my listings and added both sizes along with their corresponding prices. Bam...double the inventory!
Now Available for Personalization |
I also added variations to my recipe books and photo albums. I offer these in a premade version, but often get asked if I can personalize them as well. Now buyers have the option to select this choice when they checkout. By adding the listing variation to my books, I gave buyers more choices and added more options to my shop!

Take a look around your shop. Can you bulk up your inventory with the listing variations? How about adding more color options? Different lengths on necklaces? Can you personalize an option? A great way to bulk up your inventory before the holiday buying season approaches!
Great move Edi! This will increase your exposure in the Etsy searches. I wish you an awesome holiday season of sales!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip!
ReplyDeleteI have used Listing Variations to a limited extent. I should probably use that feature more often.
That's an awesome discovery! At this point in my shop, I am trying to avoid custom orders. I am creating cards and then listing them, rather than having to create them once they are ordered. In a previous shop I had I sold all paper supplies and cut-outs, and I had a lot of listing variations and custom orders, but it drained me and I wasn't able to be as creative, so for now I am taking a break with it, but once my shop gets going I will definitely try it again!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love that Etsy now supports variations. It's a true necessity for any online business!
ReplyDeleteI use the Listing Variations and is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI use Listing Variations for my journals but not for anything else yet. You have so many varieties that it's perfect for you!
ReplyDeleteI haven't started listing variations yet, but it is a great option!
ReplyDeleteI keep putting off doing this but this post is good motivation! Especially before holiday craziness starts next month.
ReplyDeleteThis is one thing I've been lagging on, and I don't know why. It's such a great feature to be able to use! Thanks, Edi! =0)
ReplyDeleteI love the new listing variations. I've been using them for sizes and finishes in the new photography shop. I need to do some brainstorming for the jewelry shop. So many possibilities! I'm sure that the variations will be a great asset for your shop.
ReplyDeleteI love listing variations! I mainly do it with colors and necklace lengths. If I'm feeling really ambitious I'll get several listing put together, but it's rare, haha.
ReplyDeleteI've used variations when I could offer different colors, but haven't used them with the new ability to add different prices. I wanted to on a recent listing, but to choose different amounts adds to shipping and there's no variation for that yet -- hope Etsy makes that possible!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips, Edi!
I've been wanting to add variations to my shop. However, I never know how to incorporate it very well to the items that I make. Eventually I'll like to add a bridesmaid line but I keep pushing that back.
ReplyDeleteI really love the recipe book! What a special gift that would make for someone to give along with treasured family recipes.
ReplyDeleteOh yah....isn't it time for an update on your new studio? I'm just really excited for you!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip, thanks for sharing Edi!
