Gladys' First Car Show

It's been a busy couple of weeks, but the highlight was definitely Gladys' First Car Show! It was so fun getting her out and showing her off! But I will say, it was a lot of work too. Shamee-ing (spelling?) a station wagon takes forever! But it was well worth it :)

And Jesse took our '39 Chevy as well. It was so cool having both cars at the show!

While we didn't win any prizes, we had a great day. I love looking at all the other beautiful cars and talking with other car enthusiasts. It's always fun to tell people how Gladys got her name and how she is a 4th generation family car. You sure don't see many Ramblers around anymore, so she always gets lots of looks!

One really cool thing we saw was etched car windows! How cool would it be to put Gladys' name on one of the windows!! Of course the glass has to be taken out and put back in, but it might just happen!
We have some friends that are completely restoring and old Dodge car and don't have glass in it yet. They loved the idea of having their daughter-in-law draw something special and having me etch it on their windows! Who knew these lasers had so many possibilities!

Life Lately

This past week/weekend was another busy one. My parents got into town on Wednesday and I spent time with them as well as enjoyed some holiday festivities.

We started off the weekend with an annual trip to the Goodguys car show at the Iowa State Fair Grounds. I'm having my old station wagon repainted this fall and I'm still trying to find the perfect color. I have a good contender, but the car above shows what I would ultimately like it to look like. (I know, pink. You're surprised right...lol)

And I found this fun plate on a Rambler :)

The next day was my family reunion. There were close to 100 people in attendance, all related to my great-grandparents on my dad's side.

After lunch and mingling with the family, we got out on the river...finally! With all the rain we've had, this is the first time we've been on the river since April. It was so nice to get out and enjoy the sun!

On our way back, we got dive-bombed by this ultralight! Everyone was out having fun :)

Now I'm playing catch up as usual. Luckily I have nothing planned all week, so I can relax a little while I get orders filled :)

We Love the Classics

Last week was a little bit of an exciting week. Jesse and I bought another car. And not just any car, but his grandpa's '39 Chevy! This is something that Jesse has always wanted and when his grandpa decided it was time for him to get a different classic car, we knew right where his old one was going! The whole thing happened kind of fast. We found out on Tuesday that he might be selling it and by 9am the next day, it was in our garage!

I love all the details on this old girl!

As some of you might have noticed, we have a thing for classic cars :) My first car, which I still own, is a 1963 Rambler Wagon. We also have Jesse's dad's '68 Chevelle and one day I'll also have a '50 Chevy pickup that is my dad's.

So when a classic car show came to the city, we headed up on Friday to see the sites.

As I mentioned, my dad has a '50 Chevy pickup, so my favorites at shows are always the trucks. This '48 has had some MAJOR work done! Man was it gorgeous!

And I'm always excited when I see Ramblers at shows. You don't see many of them around anymore. And wagons are even more rare. This one was just a sedan, but I loved all the Rambler decals and designs :)

I love all the fun, creative ideas people come up with!

Boys and Their Toys

A couple weekends ago Jesse and I went to a car show in the city with his aunt and uncle. I'm not usually into the newer car shows as they are the same cars you can typically see on a dealer's lot. But it was a reason to get out of the house and spend some time with friends/family. It was also a chance to get to see the new Polaris Slingshot!

We started the night off with dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the Old Market called Rock Bottom. I just love their bloody marys and they have the best baked mac 'n cheese ever! I got mine with chicken and bacon. (no calories there...lol!)
At the car show we got to see Jesse's new dream toy...the Slingshot (top photo). I wasn't able to get the greatest picture of it as there were tons of people looking at it, they had the hood open and they had mannequins sitting in the seats so no one could sit in it during the show. But we had a lot of fun talking to the dealer about them and dreaming of owning one. Maybe next year :)

They also had some fun sports cars that we don't see much around here like Lamborghinis, Ferraris and this cool Italian car (red car above) called the Alfa Romeo. These are the cars I enjoy seeing. I'm not in the market for a new car, so I don't care much about Ford, GMC, etc...I like seeing either vintage cars or unique cars that no one I know will ever own.

What have you guys been up to?

What a Weekend!

The past few days have been a little crazy around here! As some of you might have noticed, I missed my Friday Features post last week. On Wednesday night, the software I use for my laser quit working. First some of the functions quit working, then when I tried to fix it, it completely quit! The program wouldn't even open...yikes!

This was totally me!
Thursday morning I went about the task of installing all my software on my desktop (I usually run off my laptop) and getting things set up for my laser there. This meant not only finding my software CD, but also a cable to run from my computer to the laser (my laptop ran wirelessly) and then figuring out how to install the print driver again as well! By mid morning I was back in business...thank goodness! I was in nervous breakdown mode for sure!

Jesse also had last Friday and today off work because things are slow at his job right now. It's good he got some time off...he does need it. But this always throws my schedule off and by Friday morning, I realized I didn't have my blog post ready...and I didn't even have a theme in mind!

I tried a new display idea for my jewelry, but I'm not sure I like this either.
Saturday I had one of my biggest shows of the year. I'm happy to report that the show went really well! It's my best show so far this fall! I sold a lot of beer mugs and key chains as well as took several custom orders. I always find it funny to see what sells and what doesn't. I didn't sell a single piece of jewelry...not one! And I only sold one of my premade word albums! I did have a boutique owner ask about selling my jewelry, key chains and magnets at wholesale though, so that could be a great opportunity. She would like to get an order in before Christmas too!

I can always find PINK wherever I go :)
Sundays are usually our slow days as Jesse usually works that night (his Monday's start at 11pm Sunday night). But with him not working, we had another full day. We got our passport photos taken, went to a car show and spent time with his dad.

Now today I can finally get back into my routine and start getting caught up on orders from my show and Etsy.
How was your weekend? Any nervous breakdowns about happen...lol?

A Wonderful Weekend

I took a little bloggy break over the weekend and enjoyed time with family and friends. I hope you all had a great weekend too :) Though we didn't get to go visit my parents in Michigan like we had planned, we still had a great time here in Iowa. And what a busy weekend it was!
Friday we worked around the house in the morning then visited Jesse's mom at her new house and had dinner with her and his brother's family that night to celebrate his mom's birthday.
Saturday we headed to Des Moines for a car show and to spend time with Jesse's cousin and his wife. The highlight of the day was seeing a 1964 Rambler Wagon! I have a '63 that I inherited from my great grandma and I've never seen another wagon at any car show I've ever been to! Here is my car (old picture alert!):
Here is the one we saw at the show: And here is the color I wanted mine painted next :)(Hot pink, of course) Sunday started out rainy, but cleared off in time for us to go air boating. We have such a great time on the river! We brought golf balls, clubs, and a baseball bat and had fun making up games :) After the river we celebrated the 4th (early) with a bon fire and some fireworks at Jesse's aunt and uncle's house. Yesterday Jesse went boating again and I stayed home to relax. I had to work last night (Jesse had vacation-lucky duck!). I needed a day to recover from our busy weekend! I hope your weekend was as wonderful as ours :)
