One of the highlights from our trip to Mexico back in December was swimming with the dolphins. This is something I've always wanted to do and I was SO excited when I found out it was offered at our resort! There were 8 of us that participated and we all got to go together.
I was so amazed at how smart the dolphins are. They learn by hand signals, so we were told to do certain things with our hands and the dolphin would act accordingly. Here are two examples of the dolphin following different hand signals. The dolphin knows to touch your hand(s), so where ever you have them, the dolphin will go. When I had one hand out, it reached up with its nose. And with two hands out, it reached up with its fins.
And when you cup your hands, the dolphin knows you want a kiss :) I was able to get a kiss from the dolphin and give it a kiss in return...too cute!
This was called "the clock" and the dolphin would put its nose in your hand and spin you around. Don't you love Jesse acting like a ballerina :)
The best part was getting to ride the dolphin! We swam out into the ocean (which was sectioned off) and the dolphin would swim to us and then flip over when it saw our hand. We just grabbed on and went for a ride.
If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend swimming with the dolphins. They are such amazing creatures and this was an amazing time!
What an amazing post! Dolphins are incredibly intelligent creatures. Jesse as a ballerina - too funny! LOVE the kissing pics, so sweet :)
ReplyDeleteOne day, I hope to be able to swim with dolphins...
Great pictures, and what an experience! They must be taught to swim close to the surface while you are taking a ride. I notice that your hair didn't get wet :O)
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool! And all of the pictures turned out really well, you should definitely print a couple of them. So what do dolphins feel like? I've never touched one.
ReplyDeleteGREAT photos! Especially the one of you riding the dolphin. Thanks for sharing your cool experience with us!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your photos! You look so happy! Jesse has the ballerina moves down pat! :)

ReplyDeleteSo cool Edi! Love all of these photos, what fun and wonderful memories!! Looks like it was a perfect day to swim with the dolphins, and you look so happy! :)
ReplyDeleteWe got to swim with the dolphins too, when we went to the Bahamas, and it was so much fun!! It was something I always wanted to do and I'll never forget it, very awesome!
That's really cool. I see dolphins a lot at work, but I've never done a swimming with dolphins thing. Honestly, they might kind of freak me out! Dolphins can be really big. When I was surprised by a large sea turtle while snorkeling one day, I started trying to swim backwards to put some distance between us. I logically knew it wasn't going to hurt me, but it was a little unnerving, anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible experience! You look like you are having the time of your life. I would love to do that someday!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look like a pro, Edi! What an amazing experience that I'm sure you'll never forget!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post and what an adventure! Loving that ballerina move :O
