New Studio - Breaking Ground

I'm so excited to finally be breaking ground on my new studio! Since starting my business, I've been working out of an 11' x 11' spare bedroom. As my business has grown, I've taken over more and more of the house. The entire upstairs is my storage area, I take over the kitchen several times a week to wash glass orders and I have a permanent table set up in the living room to work from. Oh and the spare couch has become my shipping station...lol!

Jesse and I decided it was finally time to add on to our house. My business keeps growing and I have several other ideas for future growth that will require more room for more equipment. Originally we planned on using some of the addition for a master bathroom. But the more we talked about it, the more we decided the space would be better used for my business. There will be a small half bath, but just about the size of a closet. The rest of the space...ALL MINE!

Jesse's dad came down Friday morning and helped us layout the area and figure out how far we needed to dig down for the concrete slab. Jesse started on the dirt work right away. The next step will be trenching out the footings. I'm hoping in the next two weeks that we have all the concrete poured and the building materials all ordered. Of course I'm ready for my studio to be complete right now, but I have to remember that this will be a long process as we are doing the work ourselves.

I'll be sure to keep you up-to-date as progress is made!

  7. Wow doing the work yourselves! I wish you lots of luck. I know exactly what you mean about needing more space. For years, we lived in tiny one-bedroom apartments and I would work from one corner or another. Now I use a spare bedroom as my studio, which at first seemed like so much space, and now I'm quickly overwhelming the room with projects. Being able to plan out exactly what you want must be so exciting! I hope you'll post pics along the way. :)

  9. Yay! I'm so happy for you! It sure sounds like the space is much needed so it's great that ground has been broken! Keep track of the cost since it'll be capitalized for your business! :) Certain things will be depreciated faster than 39 years too so be sure to ask your tax person if you have questions to maximize your deduction. Yep, I always have my CPA hat on!

  21. AAAAAAH! I don't know how I missed this post until now! This is so exciting!

And a big tip of the hat to you guys for doing it all yourselves. That will be seriously rewarding. I know what you mean about working in a tiny space. In the condo I had one wall in the guest room that was mine, but here I finally have a 10x10 space of my own. It's already full, of course, hahaha.

  23. Wow! Good luck with this fabulous addition! It's been great to see your business grow and thrive online that it could get to this point. I'm sure it will streamline how you work & it will make growing your business easier and without running around to different parts of a house, you'll probably have more time to be creative, too.
