Advertising

Advertising is something I've always struggled with. I just never know what will work and what is worth the money and what isn't. Small ads don't seem to bring in any traffic, while large ads can be rather pricey.

I recently decided to try a rather pricey ad. After advertising on The Knot for the last year with little to no results, I decided it was time to invest that money elsewhere. I was contacted by Bliss Quarterly, a local magazine, to advertise to local brides. The package included a 1/2 page ad, email marketing, a list of brides who attended the two spring shows as well as advertising on their site.

The magazine was handed out to each bride who attended the two spring shows and is available at some local stores in the area as well. The second show was last weekend, so I'm still waiting to see how this pans out. Once I have the bride list, I will be able to contact the brides directly.

Time will tell whether I do this ad in the fall, but I will say that I am very happy with the company so far. They were great to work with in creating my ad and I feel you really get a lot for your advertising dollars. This whole package was $350.

  1. The ad looks great. I'm confident you'll recoup your $350 investment. If not, you'll have a tax writeoff :-).

    I haven't done any advertising. I am struggling to keep up with orders during tax season.

  2. Wow, I actually think $350 for all of that is a GREAT deal! I think it will go really well for you; the ad they put together looks great, and emphasizing how personalized your products are will draw a lot of people in. Too bad the Knot didn't work out, but this seems better anyway!

    I did a big ad last year for my fabric shoppe and it really paid off!
    Unfortunately I didn't get a placement this year.

  6. Nice ad! I hope that your print ad pays off. I've never had any print advertising, and I only do online 'advertising' with one blog I like (honestly it's mostly for the fun of it!).

  7. Great, honest post. Extremely helpful. I haven't done any print advertising, but your experience will surely help me in the future if I decide to pursue it. I have considered sewing lessons for kids, and advertising would be just the thing to get started. Thanks for sharing your experience and I will look forward to hearing about the results.

  9. I think your ad for brides will do very well. You've got excellent items for that target market. Please do keep us updated.

    I haven't tried anything large-scale for our shop. It's something that I struggle with as well.

  13. I've never directly invested any money into advertising but it may be something to consider in the future. I hope this new adventure pans out for you, I'm sure it will as your products are gorgeous and definitely perfect for weddings.
