Life Lately

Life sure does have a way of sneaking by some times! I can't believe it's been over 2 weeks since I last blogged! My parents were here last week, so I spent the prior week getting as much done before they got here, so I wouldn't have to work the whole time they were here. And this week I've been playing catch up since I didn't work as much last week. The game of life...lol :)

So I thought a nice Life Lately post to show you what I've been up to in the last 2 weeks was in order.
We finally got our new boat on the water! I wish I had a picture of the old boat next to the new boat so you could see just how beautiful the new one is! The cage has a metallic blue paint that really shines in the sun! And I love that I get to sit up top with Jesse on the new boat. It's a little scary up there! But I'm liking it :) Hoping to get it out this weekend as well.

As I mentioned, my parents were back last week. They stay with my grandparents when they are in Iowa, so I spend quite a bit of time there when they are home. I love that my grandma feeds the birds so I can watch them. This beautiful cardinal had a mate with him the whole week too...so cute!

Last Thursday marked the 2 year anniversary of my brother's passing. I still can't believe it's really been 2 years! How does that happen?!? Like last year, we wanted to spend the day doing things that my brother enjoyed. We went mushroom hunting in the afternoon and had some pretty descent luck. Then went to supper for Mexican that night. It sure was nice being with my parents that day!

This week has been catch up week and Mother's Day prep week. Cutting boards are popular again this year, so I'm lasering away recipes like crazy. It sure is nice having both lasers running. I can dedicate one to just cutting boards and the other to all the other orders.

But it hasn't been all work. Jesse and I did take a couple hours to get out and mushroom hunt on Tuesday. We found quite a few for not being out long, but they were rather small. They still tasted awesome for lunch yesterday! Nothing better than fresh morels!

  1. Did you cook the mushrooms? I'm curious what kind of dish they ended up in.

  3. I've never seen fresh morels like those before! Did you fry or cook them? The photo of the cardinal is so cute! And the boat looks fantastic, although I doubt I would get on it ;-)

  5. Even just sitting there the boat looks fast! The Cardinal is beautiful! We don't have those out here. I find them fascinating! I've never seen mushrooms like that before but will trust you that they're good! :)

  7. I'm pretty sure I'd think that was more than a little scary! I've never been on that type of boat before, but it looks pretty slick. It's great that you have two lasers going now. Very cool. =)

  8. Looks like your weather has been pretty nice! also, I knew that mushrooms were plentiful when we lived in Missouri, but I didn't know anyone who knew which ones were good and which ones were not, so we never went hunting.

  9. We haven't been morel picking for several years. Not sure why. At one time we had a house right in the middle of a heavily wooded area and spring was the time for pickin' I got extremely ill from them one year. Don't know why. My hubby ate from the same batch with no problem. Must have been a bad one in the bunch.

  10. The boat must be so fun! The mushrooms are really cool looking. What a unique thing to do in honor of your brother's memory. They must be fun to forage for. I love to eat them but wouldn't know what I could pick in the wild and safely eat.

  11. That boat looks like so much fun! I would totally love to go for a spin in that one. And you look pretty happy as well ;)

We get lots of cardinals here, and I just love that pop of red color when I see them in the yard. The one here is a very 'pretty bird!'

Those mushrooms look delicious! I'd have put those in a risotto pronto! yum!! So glad you had a nice week with your parents - even if it means a bit of catch up now. It is wonderful how close you are with them.

  12. I'm glad you were able to have a nice week with your family! It sounds like you guys had a lot of fun, especially with the boat. :-)

Some of my Facebook friends have been mushroom hunting lately and I always wonder how you know which ones to eat. Haha.
