Friday Features - 4th of July

Wishing all of my US friends and readers a Happy 4th of July weekend!
I didn't realize how long it had been since I'd put together a Friday Features post and what better reason than a holiday :) Enjoy these finds!

And I got all festive and gave myself a manicure! Any bets on whether it actually lasts until Monday...lol! At least I took a picture before I find a way to mess them up!

Last Week/Weekend...Life Lately

Last week brought on an unexpected bloggy break. It's been a crazy couple of weeks, so I thought a photo recap was the easiest was to show you what's been going on lately...

What kept me away from the blog was this amazing woman....Jesse's Grandma Marie. She had been in the hospital for the last couple weeks and we'd been going to see her every chance we had. She passed away last Sunday and we celebrated her life last Wednesday. She was the most positive person I've ever met and had such a great personality. I can't even express how greatly missed she is!

But with bad, must always come good. And Grandma Marie was always one to look on the positive side :) We got in a lot of family time over the last couple weeks. We hung out on this deck almost every night after she passed telling stories and drinking a few beers. (something she loved!) It doesn't get much cuter than Jesse and his nephew all cuddled up :)
For 4th of July (3rd actually), we went to Jesse's brother's and lit off fireworks. We bought tons of things for the kids to play with including party poppers. The kids had fun making wigs and scarves out of the confetti in the poppers...as Brody is modeling here :) And these red, white and blue jumping jacks were too fun not to take a picture of!

And Jesse's brother wins the Coolest Dad Award for building the kids a homemade zip line! I was a little bummed it wasn't for the big kids (aka...me!), but it was so fun watching the kids glide down to the play house! (click to see this larger)

On Friday, we went to the annual Goodguys card show in Des Moines, IA. There were over 2,200 cars preregistered for this show! The photo on the left shows just how long this truck sat in the weeds (or trees rather!). The top right photo is the color I want my car painted...only I want mine sparkly metallic! The middle photo is a truck almost just like the one my dad has. I love driving it when we go to visit. And the bottom photo is a very rare sighting. This is a 1964 Rambler Wagon almost like mine. Mine is a '63 with a 3-on the tree (stick shift on the column). Most of them have automatics. So it was lots of fun to see this car at the show!

But don't worry, I did take a little time to relax in all this chaos. I enjoyed drinking my afternoon coffee on the patio Sunday afternoon and soaking in the sun :) (as you can see...I need some sun!)

And I never pass up an opportunity to watch the sun set!

Okay, if you made it through all of that, thank you for being such a loyal reader!!! How was your 4th of July?

Weekend Wrap Up

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Jesse and I had a wonderful time filled with family and friends! Our celebrations actually kicked off on Wednesday and lasted all weekend :)

On Wednesday afternoon we celebrated Jesse's dad's retirement. We grilled out during lunch with all his coworkers, then had a celebration after work as well. I also went to my aunt's that night to watch fireworks.
Thursday and Friday were both filled with family cookouts and fireworks as well.
Heading Out...Over 30 boats total!

Shooting Potato Canons
Saturday was a big day. We floated down the river with around 30 other canoes and kayaks. It's an annual trip and more and more boats join every year. Jesse's dad and brother were there with us as well.

Sunday we got to go air boating. A great way to end the weekend. I love being on the river because it's so relaxing!

I even got festive and painted my nails and made some fun star earrings! I don't normally paint my nails because I can't keep from picking at the polish, but I wanted to have fun nails for the weekend. I painted my thumbs blue and cut out little stars from vinyl with my laser. I painted the rest of my nails red. And I made the earrings from red acrylic :)

I hope all my readers had a great weekend as well!

A Wonderful Weekend

I took a little bloggy break over the weekend and enjoyed time with family and friends. I hope you all had a great weekend too :) Though we didn't get to go visit my parents in Michigan like we had planned, we still had a great time here in Iowa. And what a busy weekend it was!
Friday we worked around the house in the morning then visited Jesse's mom at her new house and had dinner with her and his brother's family that night to celebrate his mom's birthday.
Saturday we headed to Des Moines for a car show and to spend time with Jesse's cousin and his wife. The highlight of the day was seeing a 1964 Rambler Wagon! I have a '63 that I inherited from my great grandma and I've never seen another wagon at any car show I've ever been to! Here is my car (old picture alert!):
Here is the one we saw at the show: And here is the color I wanted mine painted next :)(Hot pink, of course) Sunday started out rainy, but cleared off in time for us to go air boating. We have such a great time on the river! We brought golf balls, clubs, and a baseball bat and had fun making up games :) After the river we celebrated the 4th (early) with a bon fire and some fireworks at Jesse's aunt and uncle's house. Yesterday Jesse went boating again and I stayed home to relax. I had to work last night (Jesse had vacation-lucky duck!). I needed a day to recover from our busy weekend! I hope your weekend was as wonderful as ours :)

Happy 4th of July

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 4th of July!!!
We will be attending a family reunion today with LOTS of family! This is all of my grandpa's brothers and sisters and all of their families! Last count I heard was over 120 people! It will be so great to see some family we haven't seen in the last 5 years and some longer.
I'll be sure to post a photo of us in our matching purple shirts...LOL! Each family has a color and ours is purple this year :)

Friday Features-Fireworks

Everyone knows that the best part of 4th of July is the fireworks!!! I love the large ones that shoot all different colors :) I'm not a big fan of lighting them off myself, but I sure do enjoy a good fireworks showing :)
Etsy has plenty to show when it comes to fireworks! Here are some fun and not so traditional finds on fireworks.
(These are all HAND cut!!!)
