Bittersweet

I recently had the opportunity to make an adorable album for a little boy. The theme was all about transportation...trains, trucks, cars, planes...which I just love. But this was also a very hard album for me to make. The little boy's name was Jimmy.

As many of my readers know, my brother, Jim, passed away in April. His childhood nickname was Jimmy. Every time I worked on this album I thought of my brother. I thought of the car-shaped bed he had and that I just had to have when he out grew it. I thought of the photo of him and our grandpa in grandpa's ultralight. I thought of all the tonka trucks he had when he was little.

It is still very hard to think of my brother, but it was great to remember all those wonderful memories while working on this book. I hope little Jimmy loves his album :)

  1. That is so beautiful! I love the lettering. I can't imagine how tough it must have been thinking about your brother, I have been through similar things. But you did an absolutely beautiful job. Sounds like it helped you remember the fun and positive memories of your brother, which is a wonderful thing!

  4. That must have been so hard. It turned out really well, though, and it sounds like you were able to reflect on some good times you had with him. I hope that eventually you'll think of him and only have happy thoughts.

  9. I'm sure this was a difficult post -- I can just see the car bed (I always thought those were so neat!) and my son had lots of Tonka trucks! Lots of good memories for you in this post :)

  10. Aw, Edi! It turned out beautifully, and I'm sure Jimmy is going to love it. I know it must have been so very hard for you. It would have been for me too. But at least you got to think about Jim and his car bed and tonka trucks when he was little, and maybe even smile. You did a great job.

  11. I can't even begin to imagine how hard that was for you. It had to have been bittersweet knowing you were creating something for Jimmy and his family to fill with memories while remembering your own brother Jimmy. The album turned out wonderful though! (((hugs)))

  14. what an adorable little book! I think it's good that you get a chance to work through these hard times, slowly and not all at once. Maybe one day, you'll make an album for yourself or for your parents with Jim's name, to keep your memories in. {:-D
