This past weekend we were finally able to get the floor for my new studio poured!!! The footings made it real, but the slab made it look real. Getting that concrete down was a major part of the construction and I'm so glad it's done!
On Friday I got to help put in the in-floor heat. This basically consists of water lines running under the flooring. Our wood stove will heat the water in the winter, so my studio will be nice and toasty! See all those little blue clips? That was my job...ugh! Jesse laid down the lines and got them the right distance apart and the right length, then I got to go around on my hands and knees and place all the clips. My poor body isn't used to that manual labor anymore..lol! But I was very happy to help. I'm going to love that heat this winter!
Saturday was the pour! We had tons of help which was just awesome! And a friend of ours had all the concrete tools we needed and was nice enough to come help. He and Jesse have both worked in concrete in the past, so they got stuck with all the hard work and finish work.
Next up is framing. We have all the supplies to get started on this part. And we'll be ordering the trusses and roofing this week as well. It's really coming together nicely and I'm loving seeing it through every step of the process!
That is so exciting! It looks great! We have floor heating too and Sammy loves it :)

Fun to see the progress! You'll be so glad you have lots of photos.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's major progress! That's a ton of clips though... you had to have been sore after all that! Seeing the framing in place is going to be even more exciting :)
ReplyDeleteWhat helpful friends! :) Danica
ReplyDeletewow! that is so cool! I love heated floors - so jealous!! This is going to be one awesome studio for you
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! I love seeing the progress. It's going to be amazing!
ReplyDeleteYay!! The floor is down. That is so exciting.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on so much progress. When I saw the first photo I was wondering if those were heating coils! What a great idea. I imagine with a heated floor you can reduce the use of other heating to save money.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of clips! You're making so much progress! Is that on the back of your house or the side? It's so exciting!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! How exciting that you've made so much progress already! You'll be so glad for the heating in the winter.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely jealous! Looks like that will be an AMAZING studio space. Good luck with the rest of construction and enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is amazing!! The radiant heat is going to be so worth it in the winter!!
ReplyDeleteOh awesome update photos. Am so happy for you! We have heated floors here (though come on...it IS Canadaland...) and I really can't imagine how we survived before. Spoiled things, we are...
ReplyDeleteI would love to have heated floors, but I wouldn't be able to be on my hands and knees to put those clips on! I'm hurting just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, you must be very happy with the floorheating
ReplyDeleteWooHoo!!! Major progress!! That heated floor will be SO-oo-ooo comfy during the cold Midwestern winter months!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to say "I'm floored!" when she was surprised by something. But you really ARE floored!!
Yay! Nice to see it coming along.
ReplyDeleteouchie on your knees! But your feet will love that toasty warmth. The new studio looks big! I've always thought concrete work is interesting, but I know it's hard work. Working with material that sets up fairly quickly and getting it level is tricky. yay for the great help!
ReplyDeleteYay! Progress! Great job! can't wait to see the finished product--but then. . . neither can you!
