Let's Get Personal

Every year I talk about my Etsy Shop and Blog goals, but I don't ever really talk about my personal goals. I guess many years I really don't have personal goals...my business is my personal time :) But this year I have a few more goals that I'd like to accomplish. And as I've said before, I feel that telling people your goals makes them set in stone and helps me to accomplish them! So here they are...
  • Start Jogging Again! I know this sounds like an idle new year's resolution, but I am serious about getting healthier. For about 3 or 4 years, I jogged on a regular basis (3-5 days per week). When I went back to work after my layoff (2 years ago!) I had a hard time exercising again. I've tried a couple of times, but never could be myself back into a routine. I'm starting to see the effects of this and I'm not liking the results! It's time to make a change in my life! I started last week and I jogged 3 times on my treadmill. My goal is to get myself ready for Spring when I can jog 3-4 miles outside and enjoy the beautiful outdoors :)
  • Enroll in Online Bill Pay. I've had a couple incidents will bills not getting mailed correctly. Once the mailman delivered my outgoing mail (bills!) to the neighbor. And the other day I was in a hurry paying bills and ripped off the top part of our mortgage statement instead of the bottom. I didn't pay attention to the address in the envelope window and mailed the payment...back to myself! *headdesk* After telling my mom about my "blonde moment" she asked why I don't pay bills online. I can accept credit card payments with my smart phone, but I still write checks, she asked. Okay...good point :) So my goal is to get all of our bills online and get a good system down for getting them paid and in the checkbook balance!
  • Keep Track of ALL Sales in 2012! Okay, this is sort of a business goal, but it is for a personal reason :) In the past, I haven't been good about keeping records of all of my local sales. If I delivered an item to work and they handed me cash, often times I didn't have change, so I didn't worry about sales tax. (shhhh...don't tell the IRS!) Those sales can add up, and I don't have record of them. After finishing my taxes for 2011, I realized that I may be able to really make this business work as my full-time job! So in 2012, I want to know exactly what my business is capable of. I want every cent recorded and I want to know that if I'm going to quit my job, that I can really do this. So as I said, a business and a personal goal here.

It feels good to get these down in writing and out in the world!

  2. You are always so specific! That's good, I wish I could be more specific.

  3. I love online bill pay. My credit union does it for free. Can also totally relate to getting back into a regular exercise plan. My goal is yoga and walking daily.

  4. I absolutely need to get an exercise routine started this year too! I do all my transactions online - saves a lot of time!
    Good luck!!!

  5. I'm pretty bad about keeping track of local sales, too, especially with family members. I always think, "Oh, I'll totally remember how much stuff they bought" and then don't put anything in my file. And then I immediately forget.

  6. Your first two goals are mine too:):) I keep telling myself that I need to get going on the online bill pay, and have yet to make it happen:)

  7. Good luck with your goals! I really need to get back to exercising; every since the cold weather set in, we haven't been taking our walks with Pippi. I'm sure she misses them as much as we do.

  8. that's great that you want to get jogging again. Down here in Oklahoma, I think you would die of heatstroke, running outside for miles! But I'm sure it's a "bit" cooler in Iowa. I'm so glad you're taking a good look at your sales - quitting your "night job" would sure be a life changer! {:-D

  9. GREAT goals. I am focusing on exercise and diet but not being as specific, as you already know!

We will do great this year!

  11. Setting goals is so important, as you realize in the end just how much you accomplished. I also made a list of "firsts" that I want to try this year.

  12. Great goals Edi! You'll get there:) Re: cash sales- at my craft shows this winter I was worried about having coin change for cash payers since tax would make mess my prices all up. Mike had the great idea to offer cash discounts (gas stations and other places do this too) where the sticker price was the price paid and I just took the tax out of pocket later. I didn't mind this at all since the trade off was keeping sane!

  13. These are all great goals, Edi! Good luck with your exercise routine. That is one of the toughest things for me, but I'm determined to keep at it in 2012.

I switched to online bill pay for everything when we moved to Milwaukee. We have a great bill pay system through our credit union so I schedule almost everything there. It's so easy and comes right out of our bank account. It is a job getting everything set up but then it's so easy.

I am not good at keeping track of in person sales either. I really need to develop some sort of electronic record system for that. Good luck with your record keeping this year! It would be awesome if you could make this work as your full-time job.

  14. Best wishes Edi on the exercise goal which is probably the best thing you can do for yourself. I've been doing online bill paying for a long time now and though at first I was wary I've had zero problems. I feel safer getting my bills paperless and don't have that to open and toss each month either. I'm pretty anal about tracking my sales, but since they get entered in 2 places I'm annoyed at the end of the year sometimes when it doesn't balance.

Best wishes on all these goals - you can do it!
