I recently started creating some necklaces with my wooden components. I've had some pretty good success with all my other jewelry items that I wanted to try something larger scale and play with new designs. I've found out that my designing is a work in process...lol!
Here is the first design I tried. I liked how it looked all laid out on the table, but it didn't wear quite right. The pieces didn't hang like I'd expected and it looked all jumbled at times. I think one of my biggest obstacles is that the wood is so light.
So I decided to start with a more simple design and see if I could work from there. So I removed all the smaller pieces and added one more larger piece and left them in one single strand. It's a much simpler design, but I'm much happier with how it wears and hangs.
As most of my readers know, I love the chevron trend, so I decided to make a chevron necklace next. This one turned out pretty well, but I didn't like how wide the pieces were. I think this is more of a personal preference than a design flaw, so I made a second one with narrower pieces.
I really love how this one turned out. I much prefer the narrower pieces and think the whole piece hangs well and wears well. I even added this one to my shop already and have gotten quite a few views and favorites! I'll be adding the wider one as well. Even though I prefer the narrower one, I think people will love them both :)
I have a few more designs in mind that I'm working on. I like to take a few days to put them together and see how they look when I come back to them. Then wear them for a while and see how they look when they hang. I've been having fun coming up with new designs!
I'm one of those chevron necklace favorite-ers! I love it. It was cool to see your design process. Sometimes things just don't work out as planned, and that's okay. I tried explaining that in an email to my man the other day. I told him I'd made lots of stuff that day and a lot of it wasn't quite right, but I'd learned along the way and I was fain with my mini-failures.
ReplyDeleteI like how you show the process of your new necklace designs. The circle necklace shown in the second picture turned out great!
ReplyDeleteLove the small chevron! I also love that you shared the process!
ReplyDeleteMuch love!

So fun to see how you create! love your new components!
ReplyDeleteNice to see your design process, the second circle necklace turned out great and goes so well with the earrings. I especially love the Chevron necklaces.
ReplyDeleteAny new design is a trial and error process! I'm with you, I really like the smaller chevron style, but there's definitely a place for the larger one too, depending on your neckline! It's smart of you to offer both!
ReplyDeleteLook at you, you're a machine! I agree, the smaller chevron pieces are more balanced. Do you offer your chains in various lengths? I think that's a good option for something with a longer focal piece like this.
ReplyDeleteI like the small chevron one. Will there be a zebra-version of that one? I think that might turn out awesome.
ReplyDeleteThose turned out great Edi! Your shop is going to be filled with so many varieties of goodies!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a creative surge! Love the necklaces -- especially the chevrons.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea Marieken...I never though to add a pattern/design to the chevrons!
ReplyDeletefor that first necklace, you might try wire wrapping the circles together instead of chain. It will make the piece more rigid but then it should lay correctly.
ReplyDeleteI too like the smaller chevron necklace! Thanks for sharing your design process with us, very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm a fan of the simpler circle design. It looks fabulous! And the chevron design is awesome (of course). It would also be great if you did a large diamond (to match the ring you made) and offer as a set, maybe. =0)

Very cool how you shared your design process and I LOVE the chevron piece!
ReplyDeleteGreat work, I love the chevron piece too :)
ReplyDeleteI love both the simple circles and the chevrons! The chevrons are especially striking and are a perfect addition to your shop, as that pattern is so trendy right now. I look forward to seeing more jewelry designs.
ReplyDeleteYour necklaces are great! I love the chevron pieces especially the wider style. I think some choker styles and some longer necklaces would be great with the wood elements. Have fun creating.

the chevron is my favorite too. And I like the wide pieces. Yes, you've got to put it in the shop! {:-D
ReplyDeleteNow see, I'm a fan of the more chunky pieces of jewelry so I prefer that first necklace over the second, but you're definitely right; it's personal preference ^.^
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I LOVE the look your wooden jewelry has!
I say keep going with your designing process :)
These are very cool! I love the chevron one too. The great things about wood being so light is it is comfortable for the wearer.
ReplyDeletecool designs! I do like the first necklace. It looks great in the photo. I like the lighter chevron necklace better. These should do quite well!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I love the geometric designs. I know they'll be a hit.
