New Glassware

Last week I mentioned that I've been working on more wedding items including some new glass items. And I recently added 3 new glass items to my shop!

The first two go along with the trendy mustache theme that I love so much :) I added a Personalized Shot Glass as well as a set of Pilsner Glasses. I think they'll both make great groomsman gifts!

I also just added a Scratch & Dent listing for my shot glasses. I'm really picky about which glasses I use in my regular listings, so there are always a few that don't pass my inspection. Over time I've accumulated quite a few of these "imperfect" glasses and they need to be put to good use. They're all still fully functional, they just have air bubbles or scratches. I thought a discounted listing for these would be a great idea. Often times when you're giving shot glasses as a wedding gift, they don't always make it through the night...lol :) So little imperfections aren't a problem at all...and you even get a discount for them!

Question:
What do you do with your "imperfect" items? Do you listing them at a discount?
I have to admit, it was really hard for me to list an imperfect item in my shop!

  1. The new items look great! I'm sure you'll be getting lots of orders on those :)
I simply can't list anything that doesn't "pass my inspection" - I gift these items instead!

  4. Love the new items! I could go either way on the imperfect items. I tend to give things away, but if you can sell them - why not?!

  5. I'm not really into mustaches, but I must admit yours are cute. As for imperfect pieces, I think it's great that you have that in your shop. It lets shoppers know, hopefully, that you really did make your own items. As for me, when I have an Oops item, I do let the customers know and I do mark it down.

  6. Nice new items!

Normally I rip out and reknit anything that isn't just right. When this can't be done, I use them. I'd like to change this next year and maybe break them down and reuse them to create something totally new.

  7. imperfect items that I make either go to the trash, goodwill, or they go to friends as gifts. Usually gifts for friends they always use my stuff.

  8. Love the mustache pieces, and the shot glasses are PERFECT for groomsmen gifts!
Imperfections are a part of the handmade process, and I think you made a great decision to offer them at discount. Many retailers do this, so why not us?
My kids are a part of our creative process, and they make many Oopses. Most of these we gift to family and friends, but we have listed a couple before (and they did sell). I am one that would buy an Oops or imperfect item at a discounted price! Why not? I do the same thing at local retail stores at times too. =0)

  9. The mustache glasses are so much fun. I hope that they do well. The imperfect glass listing is a great idea, too. It'll be interesting to see how they do.

  10. I love the mustache on the glasses! So fun! Great idea selling the imperfect glasses at a discount. Most drinkers would not notice! I have the same issue with gemstone beads. Some end up in the trash, others are worked into multi stone strands. I like the imperfect beads because they have character. Unfortunately customers would not always see it that way. :)

  11. I never list my imperfect stuff. Usually, I give them away; we even did a "reject swap" with a few etsy sellers to get rid of our imperfect items. It was a lot of fun. :)

  12. I love the glasses with the moustaches. I thought about listing imperfect items, but I don't know if I should. Swapping seems like a good idea.

  13. Imperfections are a big quandary for me! So far I've only listed one 'imperfect' item because it was otherwise too beautiful to avoid. In general, I just feel bad about listing something that isn't just right! I daw someone at a show with a big "seconds" board, but I feel like most of my things aren't worth selling if they're not dead on. It's not because I'm against seconds, but most of the 'seconds' I have are from things falling in resin while it dries or resin not hardening correctly. I can't really sell someone a necklace that will collect fuzz and stick to them!

  14. I try not to list imperfect items.
I did list a skirt once that was imperfect. There was a slight fabric flaw inside a pleat. Barely noticeable. But I included a closeup shot of the flaw in the listing. The buyer was delighted to get a bargain.
I've had two oven mitts parts with fabric flaws I didn't detect while I was cutting, but saw under better light when I was quilting. I may make those into a new mitt for myself. Spaghetti sauce will mask the flaw.

  16. Oooh I love your new glasses! Mustaches are so fun...

I usually give my "faulties" away. I live on a university campus and there is a shelf near the student residences where I often leave things like this. Students often snatch them up as rough and ready art for their dorms!

  17. I try not to list imperfect items since I worry too much. In the case of glasses it's not your fault and doesn't hurt the use so let someone make the choice whether or not to buy it. I bet they'll sell!

  18. I love the mustaches. They always crack me up.

My imperfect items usually get taken apart and made into something else. Luckily with beads it's easy to tell if one of them is wonky before it becomes part of something.

  19. all my items are unique, so it's hard for me to list something that I think is "injured." Good idea. {:-D

  20. These are so perfect for groomsmen gifts. We have something similar from a wedding several years ago and it brings back fun memories every time we use it. I'm sure these will sell well!

  21. Those glasses would make great groomsmen gifts, and having personalized is a nice touch. I know what you mean by adding items your not happy with to your shop, I have not been able to do it. Luckily I am always able to find someone who will take it off my hands just to have some free jewelry.

  22. tough question. no. But I'm selling something different from you. Some things I just can't sell to a buyer that hasn't seen it first. Some of the so-called imperfect items I can "fix"--meaning change somewhat like overdyeing--but these must be sold in person. Some of these items I may list in the future as OOAK.
    That's my short answer.
