I recently had a friend in town visiting from Arizona. One thing I got to do with my friend was attend her daughter's 4th birthday party. I knew I wanted make something special for little Katie. She's very girly and loves pink and dressing up, so I thought a special necklace with her name on it would be perfect!
I cut the necklace from acrylic with my laser and added a couple jump rings and a silver chain to finish it off. (note to self, remember holes for jump rings next time!) The necklace turned out so cute and little Katie just loved it. She wanted to put it on right away. (note to self 2....remember to get a picture next time!) The only problem was...it wasn't quite strong enough to hold up to a 4 year old! By the end of the night it had already broken.
So back to the drawing board I went to design a new necklace that Katie can wear for much longer :) I decided that the letters only being attached at the bottoms was where the weakness was. I put a rectangle border all the way around the name (and added jump ring holes this time!) which made the whole necklace much stronger.
I can't wait to give the new necklace to little Katie. I'm confident this one will last much longer :)
This is so adorable Edi!!! A great learning process too. Now if this continues to hold up with a 4 year old wearer, you will have a really fun new item to offer customers. :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Of course I love the colour as well as the little heart on the i :)
ReplyDeleteGood idea to reinforce it :)
Cute! You could offer custom necklaces in your shop! Not that you don't already have enough custom orders though. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I will say that you could make it out of steel, and it still might not stand up to the destructive powers of a 4-yr-old. I've witnessed it firsthand. Haha.
What an adorable necklace! Bet she'll love wearing that necklace!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! I'm sure she will love it!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, love the little heart :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's so special and the heart on the I is a cute addition. Bet she will love it!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! And what a great idea to add the border to the new one to make it stronger.
ReplyDeleteIt is so cool that your laser cuts acrylic! Every time you post about using it, it seems cooler and cooler.
ReplyDeleteoh so cute! I'm sure she'll love it. My daughter's name is Katie, and she would have thought this was the best ever at age 4, and in pink. :)
ReplyDeleteSO cute!!! I'm sure Katie will love the new version. How clever of you to think of ways to make it stronger without sacrificing cuteness!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! It was so sweet of you to redesign it for her.
ReplyDeleteI love both versions of the necklace!!
ReplyDeleteAnd that hot pink is perfect for it!
We can always learn something, can't we. Recently I made a head band for my DIL, she said it fit, but that next time she would like it a little longer on the fabric part and shorter on the elastic part! Live and learn!
ReplyDeleteI really like this! Will you be offering these in your Etsy shop? Maybe wooden pendants as well? It's a thought!
