2009 Memories-EtsyBloggers Blog Carnival

For this week's EtsyBloggers Blog Carnival hosted by BeadedTail, one of the topics we were asked to write about was: Now that 2009 has come to a close, what will you remember most about last year?
2009 was a wonderful year filled with so many wonderful memories :) I truly believe that each year just gets better! I would have to say the most memorable thing about 2009 was being laid off. Now I know this doesn't sound so wonderful, but it may have just been the best 6 months of my life!!!
I must first start off by saying that I am very grateful to be back to work now! In today's economy, jobs are hard to come by and I am very fortunate to have mine back.
That being said...I really did enjoy my time off! I was able to have a normal schedule. I was able to workout every day. I was able to take Harley on walks. I was able to meet up with friends for lunch or dinner. I was able to deep-clean my house. I was able to scrapbook ALL DAY!!! My time off was amazing and I never want to forget how much I enjoyed having my days free :)
I created this layout to help me remember.

I encourage you to find the good in a bad situation and embrace it :)

Work Update

Yay! I survived my first week back on night shift! Some nights weren't easy, but it was kind of nice to get back into that routine. Overtime has already begun. Which I guess I can't complain about because the money is nice...and that's why I'm there after all. I volunteered to work ten hour days to help out in hopes to have the weekend off. That plan kind of backfired as I got mandated to work on Saturday...Welcome back to the corporate world! At least they let us go in early and leave early :) On a great note...they decided to call 45 more people back to work!!! We knew they were going to be calling some...but that amount is awesome. This will allow them to start up a second partial shift on the assembly line and alleviate some of the overtime that department has been working. I haven't heard whether this will affect me or not. I am in a temp. position and the person who has that job full-time will be called back in this group. So I may have to learn a new machine again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe this will get me back to my old permanent job! Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday...I'm off to work on windows all day. Of course...more pics to come :)

Hi Ho, Hi Ho...It's Back to Work I Go

After being laid off for just over six months, I got the call to return to work last night. I will start next Tuesday and will find out more about my job and shift then. I also have an interview (with the same company) on Wednesday for a different type of job.
I must say, this layoff has been such a blessing. I've been doing factory work since I was 19 years old and have never had a summer off, a spring break, or any of the other fun stuff that comes with college life. I went to college full-time all while working full-time. This summer has been wonderful! I've gotten to relax. I've gotten to scrapbook a lot!!! I've gotten to spend more time with my friends. I've gotten to sleep at night. (I worked overnights before.) I've just gotten to enjoy life :)
But it is time to go back to work. And the timing couldn't be more perfect! I got to go on all the vacations we had planned. And I will return right after Labor Day, so it all works out well :) There are many things we would like to do and buy that just can't happen with unemployment. I am fortunate to have a job that just put me on a temporary layoff and didn't cut everyone permanently. I have been applying for other jobs while being laid off and haven't had any success. It has been nice to know that my old job was still a possibility.
I hope that all of my readers that are out of work, or have family or friends out of work will find work soon. In the mean time, enjoy your time off and things will work out in the end :)
