What is up with the weather lately! I think Mother Nature is mad at us! Our weather has been just crazy lately with tornadoes hitting so many areas and now there is massive flooding! It is so sad to see all the damage and lives torn apart by the weather related issues. We have personally been very lucky to not be directly effected by the flooding in our area, but so many are!
We drove down to the flood site over the weekend to see how bad it's going to be. They are opening the dams from the Missouri River and that will flood entire towns just south of us and close roads, close business and force people out of their homes. They will have to relocate, rebuild and start anew! I can't even imagine going through all of this.
The only good thing is that they were given enough notice to hopefully get out what they can and get things moved to higher, drier ground. Many businesses are trying to put dirt and sandbags around their buildings to help deter the water when it comes. Several of the gas stations even had their pumps removed and had already shut down.
I was glad to see some people are keeping their sense of humor. One hotel had a sign that read "Lake front property for sale" on one side and "Gone Fishing" on the other. And the picture above is the entrance to a subdivision. They're keeping their fox safe :)
It really does make me think of what is important. What I would grab first I can't even wrap my head around starting over!
Sending safe and happy thoughts to all my readers!
That is so terrible - a couple years ago we had massive flooding here in Germany, too. Sending positive thoughts to all people who are affected. Stay safe!!!
ReplyDeletep.s. i always keep important documents, medication and a spare set of glasses ready to grab and go!
Oh Edi, my heart goes out to your area and the people from there. You have made national news with a big hole in the dam/levee yesterday. I can't wrap my head around it either, but it has to be harder for you.
ReplyDeleteThat has got to be such a strange feeling of knowing that it's coming. I'm sure it's incredibly difficult whether it's a flash flood or a "planned" flood. I like the "Lake Front Property for sale" sign. =) Always good to get smiles on people's faces in times like those.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine having endure what all the people affected by flooding have gone through. We're OK in my part of Texas, but I keep my eyes on Louisiana where my roots are. (I am glad to see that Mr. Fox will be safe!)
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been just nuts this year. First the flooding out east, and now it's happening in your area. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what it would be like to be flooded out but thankfully they do have notice to get things out. My first priority would be my pets of course since everything else could be replaced. Hope everyone stays safe!
ReplyDeleteWow, unbelievable. We're just bummed because the sun won't come out and we're still bundled in layers and blankets everyday! It's almost summer and we've barely had a taste of warmth! Doesn't compare to our home being flooded though. I'll take the clouds. :)
ReplyDeleteThe devastation of the last few weeks is heartbreaking. I can't imagine losing everything. I hope you stay safe and I'm praying for your area!
ReplyDeletevery scary and so sad. Who's suppose to pay for all this? Are insurance companies going to help people? Don't expect so. Then it fall back on the federal government...
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of what happened here in Nashville last year: it's so scary and sad to drive around and see the devastation. But the fox in the lifejacket picture gave me a chuckle. It IS good that they have a sense of humor.
