Etsy Shipping Rocks!

On Tuesday I talked about how I finally signed up for Direct Checkout (DC) with Etsy. I was hesitant at first, but am loving it so far. One of the best things I found so far is the shipping labels! You don't have to be signed up for DC to use Etsy's shipping labels, but until I signed up, I was doing things the way I had always known how...through Paypal.

Well, yesterday I shipped my first item that was paid for using DC. At first I thought it was a pain because I was already logged into my Paypal account, but their purchase wasn't there. So I was forced to use Etsy's shipping. Boy am I glad I did!

First, I must say that I love that the labels have Etsy printed on them :) Paypal's labels say eBay on them and I've always hated that.
Second...I can now print First Class International shipping labels ONLINE! This was seriously the highlight of my week...maybe my whole month! I make so many trips to the post office because of international packages. Now that I can print them online, my awesome mailman will pick them up for me...woohoo!

There were only two things that I found to be a draw back to printing labels with Etsy, both of which are only minor issues. At first, I couldn't find where to print my label. It told me it was paid for, but brought me back to the invoice page. I'm used to Paypal's popup window showing my label. After I scrolled down the page, I easily found the link and was on my way. No biggie, but I thought I'd let others know who are new to Etsy labels.
The second issue was having to pay my bill before I could print my label. I originally thought I would have to pay my bill each time it reached $25, but I was happy to find out I didn't have to pay my bill until it reached $100. (I think this is different for every seller based on their activity.) It's nearing the end of the month, so my bill was getting high. Most of the time this won't be an issue.

Have you used Etsy's shipping labels yet? What are your thoughts?

  1. I did not have a chance to try them.
I like Paypal so much, so I don't think I want to switch.

  3. I totally agree, I LOVE shipping with Etsy. Not crazy about the charges going on my bill though, I like to pay postage as I go along. But the International Shipping is awesome, plus Etsy has padded priority envelopes as an option and Paypal does not.

  4. Thanks for the tips! I've bookmarked this blog post. I'm not comfortable with leaving things for the mailman and not getting a receipt. Maybe someday.

  6. That is so cool that Etsy does this now! I print my labels via ebay but since they own Paypal it has been done this way for years. It is so easy, particularly the international shipments!

  11. I only used it for an international order and I couldn't believe it was that easy! I kept thinking there had to be another piece I was missing and for sure it'd be returned to me but the lady I sent it to left me feedback so I know it got there. Yay!

  12. I'm still using PayPal because I want to know that what's in my bank account is what's left after sales and postage, BUT you can bet I'll be using Etsy's system for international packages. I'm glad things went so well for you!

  13. I didn't realize Etsy allowed you to do this! I know Paypal did, but I haven't ventured into printing my own yet.

I may eventually try it in the future though! :)

  15. I totally agree with you on the Etsy labels! It's nice that they say "Etsy" as opposed to "eBay." I haven't gotten to use the Etsy shipping for international yet, but I can't wait! Just the other day I was all excited because I thought that I was going to print out my first international label, but it's a Paypal paid order. Only one more drawback to add to yours listed...It makes for more bookkeeping for us! Now we have to keep track of both Etsy and Paypal shipping.

  16. OK. I had to come back today and let you know that (after reading your blog post) I went ahead and used the Etsy shipping for that Paypal paid order! I had been shipping Paypal paid orders through Paypal shipping (for bookkeeping purposes), but then I realized, for a Paypal paid international order, I go to the Post Office! Duh! So I used Etsy shipping for it, and LOVED it!!!
